The Path of Bias

None of us are completely unbiased and we’re only fooling ourselves if we think we are. Bias is human.

Bias assumes.

We make certain assumptions if a person is wearing a New England Patriots Jersey or a Jay-Z tee-shirt or a MAGA hat. Some of those assumptions are correct. Some are inaccurate. Bias kicks in.

Leaders shouldn’t try to be “unbiased”. That’s an impossible task.

Leaders should recognize bias. Because bias is the path to something more serious.

Fundamental attribution error is bias run amuck. Now I’m not simply biased, I am placing motive on people’s behavior without understanding the people.

Again, we’re all guilty of this at some level.

A good leader recognizes her biases and adjusts accordingly.
